Gold and amber heart pendant “Kaïla”

Description

Sublime pendant from the 70s in 18 carat gold set with a 10 carat heart-cut amber cabochon in bezel setting. The fiery colour of amber sprinkled with delicate inclusions is enhanced by the warmth of yellow gold for a most striking effect. The pendant, held in place by a large mobile bail, can be worn on a long, thin chain as well as on a thicker chain such as a necklace of fine pearls.

The story: Amber has fascinated for thousands of years with its singular origin. Formed from fossilized resin from ancient trees, it can date back more than 40 million years. Its name comes from the Arabic anbar, and its warm hues — from golden yellow to deep cognac — capture light like no other material. Used since prehistoric times for ornamentation, it was already used on ancient trade routes, especially along the famous amber route linking the Baltic to the Mediterranean. Prized for its lightness and sun-kissed radiance, amber was renowned for its protective and soothing properties.
