Opale takes its name from the Sanskrit “Upala” which means gem or gemstone. This initial name would have given the Latin “Opalus” and the Greek “Opallios”, which mean “to see a change of color”.
Opal is a very special fine stone and, unlike other minerals, its crystals do not have a particular shape.
Lapidaries cut it into cabochon in order to preserve its play of lights. No two opals are the same, each opal is unique with its own fire.
