Description
This new TransfÓ or transformation signed ÓNÍSÌ PARIS is an old pair of 19th century cameo earrings in 18-carat gold, featuring a woman’s profile on black sardonyx, giving a bluish color to the embossed pattern. A classic piece of the repertoire of French jewelry of the nineteenth century, drawing their inspiration from ancient Greece. Wear it on a gold chain for a classic look, a pearl necklace for a decidedly elegant style or layered with more imposing chains for a quirky look.
Weight: 1.61g

This unique piece had a previous life in France.
The story: The term cameo is borrowed directly from the Italian Cameo which has the same origin as the word cameo (a gradient of colors of the same tone). They consist of engraving on stone (chalcedony or sardnoyx) or shell, a relief pattern on the white part of the stone or shell, while the colored part is used in the background. This art of engraving stone, or glyptic, concerns cameos but also intaglios (stones engraved in hollow). The first cameos date back to Greece and Ancient Rome. They displayed images of gods and goddesses, heroes, leaders, religious figures and significant events.
