The story: Due to the intensity of its flamboyant red, ruby has always been perceived as a stone of power and vitality. In ancient Greece and Rome, it was associated with sacred fire and courage, and it was thought to protect its wearer from injury and misfortune. In Southeast Asia, especially Burma, the ruby was considered the king of gems and symbolized prosperity and longevity. In medieval Christian tradition, its color was reminiscent of the blood of Christ and made it a symbol of sacrifice and devotion, adorning jewelry and religious insignia. The birthstone of the month of July, the ruby remains today the emblem of ardent love and celebrates the thirty-five years of marriage.
