The story: Ruby gets its name from the Latin “ruber,” meaning “red.” For millennia, this gemstone has symbolized passion, power, and protection. Revered in India as the “king of precious stones”, the ruby was considered a talisman capable of bringing courage, prosperity and love to its wearer. Highly prized by the rulers of the East and West, it adorned crowns, swords and royal finery, embodying wealth and authority. One of the most famous rubies is the “Black Prince’s Ruby”, which adorns the British imperial crown, although it is actually a red spinel. A symbol of passion and vitality, the stone of the natives of July also has a hardness of 9 (out of 10) on the Mohs scale. Ruby is therefore an extremely scratch-resistant gem, making it an ideal choice for jewelry worn every day.
