The story: The Basque cross, also known as the lauburu or “four heads”, is a traditional symbol of the Basque Country and neighbouring regions. Composed of four comma-shaped branches, it is often interpreted as representing perpetual motion, the cycle of life and natural forces. For some, its four arms symbolize the elements (earth, air, fire, water) or the four seasons. Present for centuries on funerary stelae, houses, jewellery and flags, the Basque cross embodies cultural identity, spiritual protection and a deep attachment to the native land.
