This unique piece had a previous life in France.
The story: The Marquise ring is a type of oblong ring created in France. It is characterized by a central gemstone haloed with smaller stones, most often diamonds.
This unique and sophisticated ring was inspired by the Marquise de Pompadour, mistress of King Louis XV of France. According to legend, the king had a ring created inspired by the smile of Madame de Pompadour. More recently, Kate Middleton was given a Marquise ring as an engagement by Prince William in 2010. The sapphire on white gold and haloed with diamonds was none other than that of Princess Diana given by Prince Charles for their engagement in 1981. Since then, this specific design of Marquise has been extremely popular in jewelry, especially as an engagement ring.
