The story: popular in goldsmithing for centuries and very popular in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, filigree mesh is usually observed on chains or drapery necklaces. It is characterized by a mesh shaped with twisted gold threads and welded together to give them a delicate embroidery appearance. It is rarer to see this mesh on rings, and the latter evokes the art of chiseled gold, specialty of Balkan goldsmiths since medieval times and observed on both rings and earrings.
