This unique piece had a previous life in France.
The story: In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, most women owned a small pair of earrings called sleepers, because they could be worn in bed without the risk of coming off during the night. Simple and safe, they accompanied the daily lives of women, from young girls in the provinces to elegant women in the big cities. Their closed hook system — ingenious and discreet — made them a piece of jewelry that was both practical and intimate, often received as a gift at a baptism, a communion or a wedding. Very popular during the Second Empire and then throughout the Belle Époque, sleepers embodied a form of modest refinement: a delicate shine worn every day, but which also knew how to accompany festive outfits.
