The story: A sacred animal and figure of power, the jaguar occupies a central place in the cultures of pre-Columbian America, especially among the Mayans, Olmecs and Aztecs. A symbol of strength, protection and sovereignty, it was associated with the night sun, the invisible world and the ability to transform. The jaguar embodied the warrior, the shaman, and the guardian of the thresholds between the worlds. In ritual jewelry, its fangs, claws or stylized effigy were worn as talismans to confer courage, authority and spiritual protection on their wearer. Worn as a jewel or incorporated into ceremonial adornments, the jaguar remained a powerful apotropaic symbol, intended to affirm inner power, self-control, and a sacred connection to the primordial forces of nature.
