This unique piece had a previous life in France.

The story: the long beaded necklace, also known as “Matinée necklace”, is characterized by its length of at least 55 centimeters and can be worn in single or multiple rows depending on its length. Existing since the origins of the necklace, it gained popularity during the Roaring Twenties when it would be called “Flapper necklace”, especially in its version with cultured pearls. This version from the late nineteenth century presents a succession of turquoises, stones so named because Europeans, who discovered it in the seventeenth century, thought they came from Turkey. At the time of the manufacture of this necklace, the main exporters of turquoise were Persia, Egypt and Mexico. The green shade of the turquoises, indicating a higher proportion of iron than copper in the stone of this necklace, point us to an Egyptian provenance of these sublime gems.
