The story: for a long time called “Matura diamond”, zircon is often substituted for the diamond from which it borrows the brilliance. On the other hand, its hardness is lower, between 6.5 and 7.5 on the Mohs scale. The diamond with its legendary hardness is at the very top of the scale, at 10. Often known in their colorless version, zircons actually come in a wide range of colors from pink to green to canary yellow. As one of the birthstones of the month of December, in the Middle Ages, zircon was believed to bring honor, wealth and wisdom.
