The story:
Vermeil is an alloy made of silver coated with gold by an electroplating treatment. The silver used must be at least 800 thousandths and the gold layer at least 18 carats and 5 microns thick. Most of the great goldsmiths that appear to be gold are actually vermeil; this is the case of many jewels of the crown of England or the plaque of Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor. Being composed of two hypoallergenic metals, gold and silver, vermeil does not give allergy. In addition, it offers exceptional resistance thanks to the bond between the two metals by molecular adhesion.
