The story: The ruby, whose name comes from the Latin rubeus meaning “red,” has enchanted civilizations for thousands of years with its fiery glow. Revered in ancient Burma and India, rubies were believed to hold the very essence of life and were worn by warriors for courage and invincibility. In medieval Europe, they symbolized passion, protection, and prosperity, often adorning royal crowns and sacred relics. In many Asian cultures, rubies were considered “king of gemstones,” capable of bringing good fortune and warding off harm. Known for their rich color and natural inclusions—sometimes called “silk”—rubies are cherished not only for their beauty but also for the warmth and vitality they are said to carry within.
