The story: Ruby, from the Latin rubeus meaning “red”, is also a variety of corundum, famous for its intense colour ranging from deep red to pinkish red, due to the presence of chromium. Considered one of the most valuable stones, it has an exceptional hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. The most sought-after rubies come from Burma, especially from the Mogok Valley, renowned for its vibrant red stones called “pigeon’s blood”. A symbol of passion, power and protection, the ruby has adorned royal jewels and sacred objects since ancient times.
