The history of diamonds began in India more than 4,000 years ago, where they adorned religious objects. Protective powers against evil spirits were attributed to them, so much so that the warriors kept it on them as a good luck charm.
It was in the fifteenth century that the cutting and polishing of diamonds with diamond was discovered, allowing to reveal all the brilliance and beauty of this rare gem and to wear it in jewelry. At the end of the nineteenth century, the discovery of diamond mines in South Africa allowed production on a larger scale. In the twentieth century, diamonds became the reference stone for engagement rings thanks to de Beers’ slogan: “a diamond is forever”.
It therefore represents the supreme embodiment of immortal love. This symbolism is linked to the hardness of this very rare and pure mineral that is built in the very heart of the Earth.
Diamonds take their name for the Greek “adamas”, meaning “undomitable”.
