The story: the “Marseillais” necklace has its roots in eighteenth-century Marseille. At that time, the partisans (market sellers) invested the profit of their work in the purchase of small gold beads of different sizes. This form of “travelling” savings also made it possible to measure the size of the partisan’s savings according to the length and size of the balls making up her necklace. This custom was gradually adopted by bourgeois families.
