This unique piece had a previous life in France.

The story: the “Marseillais” necklace has its roots in eighteenth-century Marseille. At that time, the partisans (market sellers) invested the profit of their work in the purchase of small gold beads of different sizes. This form of “travelling” savings also made it possible to measure the size of the partisan’s savings according to the length and size of the balls making up her necklace. This custom was gradually adopted by bourgeois families. Little girls from good families in Marseille received a golden ball on every special occasion (communion, Christmas, birthday) since their birth. When a sufficient number of pearls were gathered, a jeweler would assemble them to form a necklace that the girl could then wear. With the opening of this tradition to the bourgeois category, the wearing of the Marsaillais necklace became a sign of recognition for the Marseillaises meeting outside the city.
