The story: Pink morganite was first identified in Madagascar in 1910 and known as “pink beryl” (same as the emerald family). Soon after, the famous American gemologist George F. Kunz renamed it in honor of John Pierpont (JP) Morgan, American banker and passionate collector of precious stones. Since its discovery, morganite has been prized by gemstone collectors because of its rarity.
