The story: Opal is a fascinating gemstone, known for its unique play of colors, often referred to as “opalescence.” These iridescent colors result from the diffraction of light through their internal structure. They can display a wide range of colours, the most popular being bright flashes of red, green and blue. Historically, opal was highly valued by the ancient Romans, who believed that it contained the beauty of all gemstones. In the Middle Ages, opal was considered a symbol of good luck and was believed to have prophetic powers.
