Long called “Matura diamond”, zircons are often used as an alternative to diamonds from which they borrow the hypnotic brilliance. However, they are not as hard (between 6.5 and 7.5 on the Mohs scale against 10 for diamond).
Often known in their colorless version, zircons are actually available in a wide range of colors ranging from pink to green through canary yellow.
As one of the birthstones of December, in the Middle Ages, zircon was believed to have the virtue of attracting wealth, honnor and wisdom.
