The story: A precious variety of chalcedony belonging to the large family of agates, chrysoprase has been one of the most prized green stones since ancient times. Its name comes from the Greek chrysos (“gold”) and prason (“leek”), in reference to its luminous green hue, sometimes almost golden. Already appreciated by the Greeks and Romans, it adorned jewellery and objets d’art, and was later particularly sought after by Frederick the Great of Prussia, who had palaces and adornments decorated with it. A stone of appeasement and renewal, it is also associated with abundance, serenity and openness of the heart, it is said to promote emotional balance and creativity.
